History of Winter Olympics:
The Olympics is an international competition where many participants from different countries play on snow and ice, which is held every four years. The first Winter Olympics, which took place in 1924, were held in Chamonix, France. The ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the eighth century BC to the fourth century AD, served as the model for the modern Olympic Games. The first modern Summer Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896 due to Baron Pierre de Coubertin’s founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. The Olympic Charter establishes the structure and power of the IOC, which oversees the Olympic Movement.

Russia had previously hosted the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow, but this was their first time holding the Winter Olympic Games.

Italy’s Turin hosted the 20th Winter Games. The Games had 2500 athletes from 85 different nations. Turin won the bid for these Olympics over rival cities like Sion, Switzerland, and Klagenfurt, Austria.
